How to Join the Cool Earth Relay

Anybody who can run a mile can participate in the Cool Earth Relay. Anybody who wishes to do more than a mile is encouraged to do so!

To sign up, please e-mail info@coolearthrelay.org.

Next, share this website with running clubs, friends, high school and college sports teams, activist organizations, etc.

T-shirts are available while supplies last: organic cotton, locally made, $15 each. Sizes S-M-L are currently available but will probably go quickly, so put in your order soon! (Sorry, no web ordering system is in place; contact us to place your order!)

The first 10 people to recruit 10 additional runners will get a free t-shirt!

What runners should know:

This is not your typical running event. Please don't count on the amenities that you may be used to seeing at races -- bring your own water, snacks, and whatever you need to keep comfortable while waiting for your turn to run. Water and restrooms will be available at City Hall until the Market ends at noon.

Route. The 1-mile loop is currently planned to start at the B-Line trail near the Farmers Market. Follow the B-Line to Kirkwood, turn left and run past the Courthouse; turn left on Lincoln next to the Library; turn left on 6th to head back to Morton; enter the Market on Morton and run along the edge toward Information Alley and back to the starting point to hand off the baton.

Numbers. There will be 10 batons, so hopefully 10 runners will be out at any given moment. After handing off your baton, you may join the rotation to run another mile, and repeat as often as you like! We'll quit when we've completed a total of 350 miles.

Pace. Run at your own pace. The event is not a race; all abilities are welcome!

Time. We will start at 8am. If we have 10 runners at all times, running an average of 10-minute miles, we should cover 60 miles per hour, in which case we'll need about 6 hours to finish. When you sign up you'll be asked to indicate approximately when you would like to run (8 - 10am, 10am - 12pm, 12-2pm) so that we can minimize wait times and keep the batons going at all times.

Safety. We've been asked to slow down and be considerate coming through the Market. Obviously, common sense applies to the rest of the route as well!

Waiver. All runners will be required to sign a liability before participating in the event.

Pass it on!
