It's time to act. Cut your greenhouse gas emissions, and lead the way for your community to do the same. Tell your local, state, and national
leaders that their leadership is crucial in this enormous planetary challenge. Be a part of the growing network of people working to cool the Earth and pass it on.
The Cool Earth Relay is an opportunity to help spread the word. In October, 2008, a team of runners kicked off the first event, running from Bloomington to Indianapolis in a zany, challenging, fun relay. This fall, the Cool Earth Relay is teaming up with Bloomington 350: we'll be running a 350-mile relay in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday, October 17. Each pass of the baton symbolizes our commitment to stop global warming and to pass on the planet to all generations to come.
When: Saturday, October 17
Where: Bloomington, Indiana
We need you to help reach our goal of 350 laps on a 1-mile loop through Bloomington, starting near the Farmers Market on the B-Line trail. Why 350 miles? This year the Relay will be one of several events happening in the 350 hours leading up to October 24, an International Day of Action drawing attention to climate change and the urgent need for bold leadership.
Scientists at NASA find that the threshold for a safe level of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere is 350 parts per million (ppm). In May, 2009, this level was reported to be 390ppm. It continues to rise. If we act boldly to decrease our greenhouse gas emissions, it will still be possible to avert the most disastrous of changes, such as massive melting of polar ice caps and a huge rise in sea levels.
At www.350.org you can read about efforts around the globe to call for action at the international talks occurring in Copenhagen in December.
If you can run a mile, sign up today! Do you know other runners? The first ten people to recruit ten additional runners will receive a free Cool Earth Relay t-shirt! Contact us for details.
